Leo F. Cain (d. 2001) was born in Chico, Calif. and received his bachelor's degree at Chico State University. His master's and doctoral degrees were achieved at Stanford University. His career began by teaching at public schools, after which he served in the Navy during World War II. During his post-military service, he became a faculty member at the University of Maryland and the University of Oklahoma.
